Biofeedback at Country Counselling

Paige, RN is a Certified Practitioner of HeartMath Biofeedback appointments for clients of CCS that would benefit from treatment. Typically the recommendation will be 4-6 sessions, however this varies dependent upon condition treated and responsiveness to treatment.

This technology offers an innovative approach to improving emotional well-being. In these sessions, you will learn to change your heart rhythm pattern to create physiological coherence, which is a scientifically measured state characterized by increased order and harmony in your mind, emotions and body (heartmath.com).

Heart signals sent to the brain have a significant impact on brain function. Heartmath research has demonstrated that different patterns of heart activity (which follow different emotional states) have distinct effects of cognitive and emotional functioning. Special attention is paid to your Heart Rate Variability (HRV). One of the most powerful factors that affect our hearts changing rhythms is our feelings and emotions. In your appointment, you will get to see real time information and learn different interventions to achieve physiological coherence and improve your emotional and physical well-being.

Biofeedback is a technique you can use to learn to control some of your body's functions, such as your heart rate. During biofeedback, you're connected to electrical sensors that help you receive information about your body.

This feedback helps you make subtle changes in your body, such as relaxing certain muscles, to achieve the results you want, such as reducing pain. In essence, biofeedback gives you the ability to practice new ways to control your body, often to improve a health condition or physical performance. Mayo Clinic

What can I expect at my Biofeedback Appointment?

Your first appointment with Paige will entail a comprehensive nursing assessment/health history, including medication review, basic vitals, and your goals for treatment.

Paige will explain how biofeedback works, the structure of the sessions, as well as an approximate treatment duration.

These are non-invasive appointments (you will have an sensor clipped to your ear) and you will be able to see the inner workings of your body up on a big screen. You will also be able to see how your body responds to different things you do (biofeedback) and strategies which are helpful (and a discussion on those that aren't helpful) by seeing the effect on your body in real-time!
